How long does it take to prepare for GRE?

You might have questions about how easy or difficult the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) might be and how long does it take to prepare for it? To simplify this we can break it down into a few analytical points so that we could understand it in a better way. Things like over‐studying or under‐studying cannot muddle with your mind later. Students have different ways of preparing for the GRE, each one takes different time based on the methodology of preparation.

1.Self‐study: Studying on your own requires following a tight schedule and only those students who are extremely dedicated in their efforts and can follow up with enough consistency can do it by themselves. Due to this self-study may require more time and effort than with the help of guidance.

2.Coaching centers: Mostly students prefer coaching centers to get the required material and guidance which speeds up their preparation as well as streamline the process of learning. So when we are trying to estimate the amount of time you will need to spend, it varies from 8 to 10 hours a week to 2 to 3 hours a day. Again it depends on your proficiency level in all the sections.

So keeping all the above points in mind we can say that the GRE preparation will take around 5 to 20 weeks and if you include mocks and the sectional tests, the preparation time can go from minimum 6 weeks to maximum 24 weeks.
